Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Our commitments for an inclusive CHR2027
CHR2027 is committed to creating a welcoming conference at which everyone is treated with fairness, dignity, and respect and has a genuine opportunity to participate. Our approach is informed by the University of Manchester’s commitment to an inclusive, diverse, and accessible environment and by the CHR Code of Conduct.
Our commitments
We aim to:
- provide an environment free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, and victimisation;
- respect participants’ identities, backgrounds, names, and pronouns;
- consider accessibility and inclusion throughout the conference programme, venue arrangements, catering, and social activities;
- listen to participants’ individual requirements rather than make assumptions about the support they need; and
- respond to concerns fairly, sensitively, confidentially, and without retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith.
Inclusive participation
When registration opens, participants will be invited to tell us confidentially about access, dietary, religious, caring, or other requirements that may affect their participation. Providing this information will be optional. We will work with participants and the University to make reasonable arrangements wherever possible.
Examples may include step-free access, accessible seating, hearing or visual support, alternative formats, dietary requirements, or access to a quiet or private space. Please see our Campus Accessibility page for building, route, and room information.
Participants are also welcome to provide a preferred name and pronouns for their conference badge. This will be optional.
If you need an adjustment or additional support, please contact the local organisers at local@computational-humanities-research.org as far in advance as possible. Requests will be handled sensitively and shared only with those who need the information to help arrange support.
Registration and participation
Information about registration fees, any available financial support, and participation formats will be published when registration opens. Online participation is not currently confirmed and should not be assumed to be available.
Conduct, reporting, and support
All participants are expected to follow the CHR2027 Code of Conduct. It explains the expected standards of behaviour and the routes available for reporting concerns.
Concerns about discrimination, harassment, bullying, hate, or other inappropriate behaviour can be raised with the CHR2027 organisers. The University of Manchester’s Report + Support service also allows students, staff, visitors, and members of the public to seek support or submit an anonymous report.
University of Manchester guidance
